Book rail tickets through IRCTC on your mobile phones

I had posted this bit in my other blog, but since many readers were asking about IRCTC booking on this blog, I have reused it here as well.

Good news for all those who book rail tickets through IRCTC. Now you can book your rail tickets through your mobile phones - anytime anywhere. With just a few clicks you can reserve your tickets, check the history of booked tickets or cancel a booked ticket.

How to book tickets on your mobile phone:

1. Open the website https://www.irctc.co.in/mobile on your mobile phone.
2. Login with your existing IRCTC user id and password.
3. Click on Book Ticket and fill in details for "Plan my travel"
4. Select the train and continue the booking.
5. Use existing passenger list or add passengers.
6. Confirm booking details and pay through Credit/debit card to get successful booking.

I got an email from IRCTC regarding this, so thought of sharing it with everyone.

APSRTC provides connecting bus services from the Gudur Railway Station to Tirumala by operating 40 buses every day. Buses start from the Gudur Railway Station.

The Gudur-Tirumala distance is 122 km. The journey time is 4 hours, and the fare is Rs.43.00. The bus frequency is between half an hour to one-and-a-half hours.

Please check with APSRTC about the current fares and timings before travelling.

On reaching Tirupati (to avoid waiting in queue for purchase of tickets to proceed to Tirumala), the system of link tickets (Rs.20/- for ordinary and Rs.24/- for Express) to Tirumala has been introduced.

These tickets are available at all the advance reservation counters and with the service conductors of Tirupati bound services. Similarly, both up & down journey tickets ordinary Rs.36/-, Express Rs.44/- can be purchased for onward and return journey from Tirupati to Tirumala. (These tickets are sold at all APSRTC Bus stations and through conductors of Tirupati bound services).

45 crore crown for Lord Venkatreshwara

Karnataka's minister for tourism and leading industrialist Gali Janardhan Reddy Thursday presented a diamond-studded gold crown,
estimated to be worth Rs 450 million (Rs 45 crore), to the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupati.

Janardhan Reddy, who owns Brahmani steel plant and Obulapuram mines in Andhra Pradesh, made the rich offering on the occasion of his birthday.

He refused to publicly divulge the value of the crown but it is estimated to be Rs 450 million. The crown weighs 30 kg and it took nine months for the diamond workers to make it.

The businessman, a close ally of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, offered prayers along with his family members at the world's richest temple located over Tirumala Hills and later presented the crown to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the affairs of the temple.

TTD sources said the crown would adorn "Mool Virat", the presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara.

TTD has introduced a package tour to take you to the temples around Tirupati. The bus starts from the Central Reception Office, Tirumala at 0600 hrs every day and returns the same day at 1320 hrs to Tirupati.
